COGWRIGHT opens in the Gear Generator. Basic mode exposes only tooth size, tooth count, pressure angle, bore, optional mate, and output actions. Advanced mode reveals profile tuning and mounting features. System design, fabrication, inspection, and integration workspaces are grouped in collapsible navigation sections.
The gear generator uses the involute of the base circle, standard full-depth addendum and dedendum, adjustable pressure angle, backlash, and profile shift. Where the root circle falls below the base circle, COGWRIGHT connects the involute to the root radially rather than calculating a cutter-specific trochoid.
COGWRIGHT supports smooth open and crossed belts plus synchronous 2GT, 3GT, HTD, MXL, XL, T, and AT families. Timing drives use tooth-count pitch diameters, stock belt tooth counts, exact tangent geometry, engagement checks, optional backside-idler routing, direct profiles, and stacked plate kits. Curvilinear contours remain fabrication approximations and require belt-specific verification.
v2.3 adds standalone internal gears, straight racks, ratchets and pawls, Geneva indexers, cycloidal-style profiles, lantern pinion plates, escapement wheels, and arc-length-distributed noncircular gears. Each profile carries a clear fabrication or engineering boundary where a flat SVG cannot establish a certified production tooth form.
v2.3 expands the sprocket tool into a complete chain-drive workspace with ANSI, ISO B-series, and bicycle envelopes; single, duplex, and triplex construction; link and center-distance solving; slack allowance; wrap and engagement; chain speed; chordal-action estimates; optional idlers; two-piece service splits; and layered fabrication kits. Tooth outlines remain fabrication-oriented roller-pocket profiles.
v1.4 creates target-aware payloads. Cutline receives layered SVG geometry, CutPlanner receives a material-and-quantity cutting job with individual part SVGs, and Cooper receives reports, manifest data, and optional geometry. Delivery uses same-origin storage, BroadcastChannel, route query parameters, postMessage, and a downloadable fallback.
v2.3 compares selected geometry against indicative process resolution, material/process compatibility, thickness, environment, duty cycle, preliminary load utilization, and hub strategy. It is a screening tool, not a certified material, structural, or machine-capability analysis.
v2.3 creates feature-specific measurement plans, records actual dimensions, evaluates configurable tolerance bands, generates 1:1 profile and bore templates, and packages first-article evidence. External involute gears add chordal thickness, base-tangent span, and over-pin reference calculations.
The workbench combines shafts, bearings, gears, timing pulleys, smooth pulleys, sprockets, belts, and chains into a system-level assembly. It propagates speed, torque, efficiency, and direction while checking center distances, packaging envelopes, and approximate radial loads.
Named variables and safe mathematical expressions can drive shaft locations, diameters, component teeth, modules, planes, connection centers, efficiencies, and system inputs. Configurations override variable formulas without losing the base design. Dependency checks identify cycles, duplicate names, missing targets, and broken references before regeneration.
The optimizer searches practical gear, timing-belt, and chain combinations against a target reduction, stage count, package envelope, engagement target, and selected objective. Results are ranked rather than presented as certified selections. Apply an alternative to the Transmission Workbench for detailed routing, collision checks, fabrication output, and documentation.
